About us

Children creative house has arisen as an idea of imaginative women from Youth association Breza. Since it was an ingenious idea, soon it was turned into a project. Here's how and why the project was created:

Project "DOKKICA"- This project is in accordance with Draft of National Strategy for prevention of behavior disorders among children and adolescents (2008-2012)
Children creative house is prevention working program  with children and youth  through various activities (help with learning and quality  organization of spare time, offering psycho emotional  help and support to children and young people with various disabilities, creative workshops, playgroups, assistance in family education ...).
Main reason for launching this project was devastating fact, according to available statistic data, that each year absence of class is increasing, there are more and more aggressive turns and violence among children, consumption of drugs and alcohol is increasing each year  in earlier age of young adolescents, and because of European work time (9am-5pm) there are more and more children and youth "LATCHKEY" aimlessly roaming  the city because they have nowhere to spend their spare time and they do not have adequate assistance in writing homework. It is for these reasons, prevention and establishing "DOKKICA" and providing space for the implementation  of quality time program for children of Osijek, is one of the urgent  measure  in implementation of prevention, spare time and culture for children and youth.

Purpose of the project is to provide the minimum conditions necessary for a quality, successful, healthy growth and development of new generations and to prevent anti-social behavior among children and youth and encourage them to spend their spare time on a quality way.

Project beneficiaries are elementary scholars (age 6-14). The expected number of direct beneficiaries is 300.  Indirect beneficiaries are their parents, guardians and educators included as accompaniment and also as helpers / volunteers in the performance of individual workshops where the emphasis is on inclusion.  Beneficiaries are referred to "Dokkica“ by the recommendation of  schools,  social welfare center, professional services in institutions (orphanage) and on parents request or on their own initiative. Please note that all contents are free.

Project activities were conducted in the former building of  Social Welfare center  in Osijek (Jäger Street) every working day from 3pm to 8pm. The following actions occurred:
- Help with school problems
- organization of spare time and playgroups (informal cooking, painting ...)
- Psycho-emotional support through counseling and play therapy in workshops
- Organization of children's creative potential - "Every month one project"
- Involvement and networking students of psychology, pedagogy and Teacher Education Faculty in Osijek in project activities and organizations who organize spare time activities for children and youth
- Organizing creative workshops in subject areas (music, dance, visual arts ...)
- Regular evaluation of the project and supervisory work with staff on the project

Work holders are manager (coordinator) of House, director of instruction, director of free workshops and playgroups, head of advisory services and co-workers and volunteers - all professional and educated people that Youth association Breza provides.

The project has been conducted in cooperation with Social Welfare center of Osijek, which has transferred (leased) premises in its former building in Jager Street, and performs the supervision of staff, then with the city of Osijek, which partly funded the project and helped in connecting the "Dokkica" with organizations that work for the common good. Cooperation was established with the Volunteer Centre Osijek (networking of volunteers), Children's house Borovje from Zagreb (supervision of organizational and realization part of project), elementary school "Retfala" from Osijek (referral of students with learning disabilities), a musical workshop for youth "Polifonija" Shine Dance Studio, Center for informal youth education and numerous other individuals and organizations and clubs who work for youth or with youth and promote volunteerism.

On November 30th 2009 DOKKICA opened its doors for the first time. Thanks to the effort, quality work and support provided by staff, workshop facilitators and volunteers, from the very beginning to the end of 2010. Dokkica was a place for over 400 beneficiaries who passed through 40 workshops and hundreds of individual lessons.
Aware of this fact and how much the project has developed, Youth association Breza founded Dokkica association in February 2011.
